You and I are aware that
oftentimes things work out in our
lives in unexpected ways.
It was time to write my essay
for the September website, so I
turned to a notebook in which I
write ideas that I think may
someday spark an essay, and I
found the title above heading
some paragraphs I wrote on April
30 this year.
The September-October Unity
Magazine had arrived, and I had
been reading what Eckhart Tolle
(The Power of Now, A New Earth)
said when Paula Coppel
interviewed him when he visited
Unity School. What I wrote, and
what Tolle said, supply the
content of this writing.
Last April I went on to write:
Whether we have found what the
problem is, this formula will
begin the answering process:
God-intelligence will reveal the
problem--and the answer!
The beauty of this formula is
that we are not allowing the ego
to get involved in worrying and
fretting about a problem it
thinks it is up to it to solve!
This describes what we human
beings are caught up in. We are
learning to let go and let God.
Every time we pray/meditate,
this is our opportunity to let go
and let God. Probably we have for
some time been hanging onto what
we have called a problem. Unity
has taught us to use the term
"challenge" instead of problem.
This is a strong point in Tolle's
teaching.
"When you think you
have big problems, ask
yourself, What problem do I
have at this moment? Usually
you will find that you don't
have a problem at this moment
because you're sitting here
and you're breathing, you're
looking out the window, and
it's fine. There is enough
air. You even had enough food
today; and if you didn't have
enough food, even that
wouldn't be a problem, but
maybe a challenge. So
challenges exist, but problems
are mind-made. Challenges are
something that can only be
tackled in the present moment
and require action.
So if you have no money,
you can apply your mind and
say, What action can I take?
.And then become still. Don't
apply your mind without the
stillness because, if you
start applying your mind
without the stillness, you
might very soon lose yourself
in the mind, and that turns
into worry. Worry means the
mind is controlling you. Worry
is always pointless. A
solution never comes out of
worry."
Coppel mentions that people
often say they get their best
ideas in the shower. You may
sometimes feel that way. I often
find exciting new realizations
come to me in the shower. Tolle
says that "original thought " can
break through when we are in the
silence.
This is what I am getting at
when I say;
Feed the answer
(God-intelligence) into the
problem or challenge. It is in
the silence - when we are not
allowing our ego-mind to
control us - that the feeding
occurs.
