LET'S PAINT THE DARK SIDE WITH
GOD'S ROSY HUE OF LOVE!
Are you aware of how much the
"dark side" is referred to in
today's psychological/theological
literature? Perhaps this has
bothered you in somewhat the same
fashion of my past experience: I
know now that there is a dark
side, but that it is in human
consciousness rather than
supposedly the "other side" of
God's reality.
Charles Fillmore was helping
us with the dark side when he
spoke so brilliantly of what he
called "race consciousness",
roughly the equivalent of Jesus'
term, "the world."
The metaphysical or Truth
movement speaks of reality as
pertaining to the absoluteness of
God. We human beings often tend
to speak of dealing with reality,
"get real!", the real world.
It is important that we
establish ourselves in the
conviction that the dark side is
not, like the Devil, a challenge
to whether the Truth is really
the Truth. Then it is equally
important for us to learn how to
deal with the dark side of human
consciousness.
To paint the dark side with
God's rosy hue of love is, in my
opinion, the best way to deal
with it, but this is not the same
thing as ignoring it, pretending
it isn't there, going into
denial.
The Truth movement uses the
term "denial" differently from
what is meant by going into
denial, sweeping some problem
under the rug. Metaphysically we
mean by denial that we declare
the unreality of seeming evil. We
declare that there is no real
power in seeming evil. It is
necessary that we continue to
seek ways to understand why we
human beings sometimes hate
instead of love; feel worthless
and powerless and separated from
God, ourself, and others; why we
sometimes feel that life is
hopeless, that we are hopeless
and that there is no way out.
From personal experience, as
well as from seeing the validity
of the Truth teaching, I am
suggesting that we learn to paint
the dark side of human
consciousness with God's rosy hue
of love.
Here is what I mean: When
Jesus teaches that
"Thou shalt love the
Lord thy God with all thy
heart, and with all thy soul,
and with all thy mind./ This
is the first and great
commandment./And the second is
like unto it. Thou shalt love
thy neighbour as thyself./On
these two commandments hang
all the law and the
prophets.", He is showing us
how to eliminate every thought
or feeling that there is
anything other than love,
other than God, other than
goodness. (Matt. 22:37-40)
Painting the dark side with
God's rosy hue of love is to
bring light into the dark side,
to see it as it is in essence and
potential, refusing ever to
believe that life is hopeless,
that there is no goodness in
people, that there is anything in
reality that leaves certain
aspects of life beyond our coping
power - beyond God's Truth as the
answer to every and any
problem.
I do not know the origin of
the term "dark side." I have
wondered if it might have stemmed
from our speaking of the dark
side of the moon - the apparent
absence of light.
So I consulted an encyclopedia
and found some inspiration in
what it said. Forty-one per cent
of the moon is always visible;
forty-one per cent is sometimes
visible, and eighteen per cent is
never visible. Remember that this
means visible to us, that is, our
perception, our consciousness.
The dark side is not really dark.
It simply is that we are not able
to see it; that is just about the
definition of the "dark side."
The answer to the "dark side" is
light. The answer to our human
problems or perceptions is
light.
Light metaphysically means to
see things truly. That's what I
mean by painting the dark side
with God's rosy hue of love.
To love with our mind is to
see truly; to love with our heart
is to be free from the darkness
of fear and hate and
hopelessness. I'm not sure why
soul is referred to separately
because metaphysically soul is
the realm of consciousness, but I
think it may here mean "with all
that you are!"
I wrote above that what I am
saying in this essay results
partially from my own experience.
What I find all the time is that
when I paint a life experience
with God's rosy hue of love,
things become okay. I feel
better, others seem to respond,
and all of a sudden there is no
problem!
So love is the key to good
thinking, to balance and harmony
in emotions, and to the soul's
well-being.
Love allows light into the
dark side!
