The following thought came to me sometime in
December: There is an upward pressure of humanity's
collective consciousness that makes it possible
and even likely for ANY record to be broken by
someone and for breakthroughs in every aspect
of human life!
Eckhardt Tolle is correct in celebrating every
NOW as the time to break through into new consciousness
and productiveness. What I have written above
might well have been at many times in our human
evolution. However, it is also true that at this
point in time so much advancement has taken place
for the human family that we may feel sure this
is a good time to step into the flow (as Eric
Butterworth has suggested).
It has taken billions of years for human life
to evolve, but now it is breathtaking to think
of what humanity might do in the next minute!
I have written before in these essays about an
idea I learned in university: humanity's evolution
and progress enters into the building sociologic
pile that provides a foundation for further progress.
Today for sure it is justified to speak of this
as a tremendous pressure or momentum in collective
consciousness that presages wonderful things to
come!
Ernest C. Wilson was to the body of Unity students
and ministers thought of as our dean. When he
wrote of the upward progressive movement of life,
he made a real impact on our thinking. In the
midst of much (at any time in human history) that
seems utterly negative and even full of doom,
Ernest was right. There IS an upward progressive
movement; there is an upward curve of improvement,
betterment, that is a truer evaluation of the
human condition than ever to claim "things
are worse than ever!"
It is wonderful to contemplate the significance
of collective consciousness. It is true that each
of us is an individual needing to take responsibility
for our own thinking and behavior. But what we
usually think of as our mind includes the total
scope of humanity's evolution and development.
It is in our blood and it is there as the foundation,
the sociologic pile I have written about.
I am speaking of this in terms of a pressure,
a push for doing more, doing better. And what
causes this, of course, is the fact that there
is a driving force in humanity for breaking records
and breaking through.
So why write about it: Well, are you hanging
back, am I hanging back, or are we accepting our
own self as functioning members of this dynamics?
Now is the only time we have. Eckhardt is right
about that. So nothing could be truer than to
say that you and I and everyone, all of us together
and as individuals, stand at the very best time
to really do something about our New Year's Resolutions
or a long-held dream or aspiration.
