The orthotics specialist and I
were looking at the anatomical
wall chart showing the structure
of the leg in great detail, and I
said to him, "Wow! what scientist
do you suppose engineered that!"
His smile acknowledged that he
too was feeling the awe God
deserves as we contemplate the
miracle of the human body and all
the rest of what we call
"life."
A recent conversation with
another Unity student has
stimulated some further thinking
on my part about the God-process
I have been writing about
frequently in these website
pieces.
You and I - and all the rest
of us humans! - are often on the
verge of thinking we may be able
to "engineer" our way through a
problem or a challenge or a
threatening situation. Have you
noticed that?
Is it possible that we concede
that God certainly engineered the
creation of the world, but that
He/She left it up to us to take
care of the human engineering?
This seems to me to be partially
valid, but we run into trouble if
we misapply the point.
What Charles Fillmore calls
the twelve powers of man -
thinking of twelve spiritual
qualities as our God-given tools
for living - would indeed be how
God has outfitted us for human
engineering.
But it is when we worry, when
we fear, when we project
unacceptable happenings into the
future, that we are NOT doing our
human engineering, but rather
trying to do the things that we
must still trust to God's
engineering. God has not gone
away and left us to our own
resources, as we sometimes put
it. God is the Mind, the
Spirit, the soul, the Self that
connects us with "all the forces
of heaven and earth" - to refer
to one of my favorite Unity
affirmations from the "old days."
This is what trust is all about;
this is what we mean by
faith.
So I'm going to give you some
further suggestions about how to
do this:
- "AT EVERY MOMENT OF MY
LIFE, I RELAX AND TURN TO THE
GUIDANCE OF GOD, TRUSTING THE
RESULTS AND THE GOD-PROCESS
THAT PRODUCES THEM."
- "WHENEVER I FEEL FEAR
.
- "WHENEVER DOUBT CREEPS IN
.
- "WHENEVER I CAN'T SEE HOW
TO BRING ABOUT GOOD RESULTS
.
In other words, I'm reminding
you, and myself, to remember to
do this when our inclination
is not to do so.
You and I know that a lot of
scary circumstances in our lives
have worked out in what we even
describe as miraculous ways - and
even despite the mental agony we
sometimes have put ourselves
through.
It wasn't the mental agony,
the worry, the fear, the doubt
that contributed to the
God-process. God didn't need
THAT kind of help!
So I guess you've got my
point; I guess I've got my point.
Let's remember!
