Even for a man turning 91 this
month who has been indoctrinated
to think of God as universal
(omnipresent is the Unity word)
Spirit instead of as a Superhuman
being on a heavenly throne, the
old race consciousness subtly
gets its influence into the mix,
and I sometimes localize God
rather than universalizing God as
omnipresence and in us all
equally. (Charles Fillmore had a
distinctive way of using the term
"race consciousness." He meant
the whole human race rather than
referring to prejudice against
people of a different color or
country.)
Will you join me at this
moment in time and let yourself
get the feeling that when you are
in the presence of any human
being, you are for sure in the
presence of pure Being?
Pure Being is the best
definition of the reality - the
Truth - of each and all of us. To
practice this is to be in the
best and the fullest support of
another person. Our consciousness
and our behaviour are what we are
making of the pure,
uncontaminated possibilities of
each moment. It is so important
for you and me to remember Jesus'
admonition not to judge by
appearances, the way we and
others look - whether we are
"good" looking or not so good,
"too" fat or "too" thin,
intelligent or a bit slow, etc.
etc. Our behaviour and the
behaviour of others also comes
under the category of
appearances. At the moment we
don't appear to be able to do
better in some aspect of life.
Judging ourself or anyone else
is to forget two things:
1)the eternally unchanging
true Self of each person is pure
Being;
2)human life is the process of
learning how to express the
infinite possibilities of our
true Being.
We may not be doing so well
right now, but we will do better.
We can count on that because this
is the nature of life (upward,
progressive unfoldment of what
God has infolded in all creation
that is also referred to as
evolution) and, therefore, our
destiny!
In my website essays I have
earlier referred to Mother
Teresa's statement that she
beheld Jesus Christ on the face
of every person she met on the
streets of Calcutta. This is what
it means to behold each of us -
self included - as pure Being,
for Jesus Christ represents the
purity and wholeness of God
expressing in human form.
I think the greatest Truth of
the Jesus Christ story is Jesus'
assertion that He (meaning in
Unity's opinion, the one,
universal, Christ) and we are one
in and with the Father and that
whatever we do, the Father is
doing the works.
To live in this consciousness
is to be aware of pure Being
expressing in ourself and each
and every person (and actually in
all life). There is only pure
Being in the process of gaining
human acceptance so it is able
freely and completely to manifest
itself. This is what life is all
about!
P.S.: Refer to my earlier
essay to see the backgroud of
what I am now writing, Charles
Fillmore's prayer
INVOCATION in which he speaks
of being in the presence of pure
Being.
