Title: The Reunion

My friend and I have been carrying on a lively correspondence for several years after quite a period of time when outwardly we were not communicating. This reunion makes the excitement of our mutuality of spiritual attitudes even more intense and satisfying. Has something like this happened in your life?

After reading my website pieces and also one or two letters, in which I was writing of my experience in having greater success in my little par-3 golf game - since I had gotten away from trying so hard - and now trust God (the Principle of the game) to take care of the results: he wrote this unusual sentence in his last letter: "we cannot express God, but God CAN express through us."

Most of the time people in our line of thought speak of expressing God (and I'm sure my friend agrees, as I do, that this is perfectly OK to say) but what he means, and what I mean, is that we have to know that God is doing the expressing. God is doing the loving. God is writing the songs - through us, it's true - as Jesus made perfectly clear when He said that:

"the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works."--John 14:10.

Then my friend wrote another unusual thing, "God is God, and I am I, a soul created by God, not (in) His image, but with the capability of channeling His image in a unique way..." Again I admit that this is a strange way for people trained in Unity to say it, but my friend was dealing with a problem that has befuddled many persons: how come, if we are created in the very image of God that we sure don't seem to be very godly? So my collaboration with this last statement was to say that here we are getting at image standing for our God-given capacity of imagination. Our image (imagination) of God, of any Truth or quality, is our own, is our unique way of letting God express through us. We are indeed created in the image of God, that is, with the capacity to imagine, to let Him bring forth something so wonderful that lots of people like to say we are co-creators with God!

Since I seem to write all the time about my battle with perfectionism, my friend wrote "...and what so many think of as perfection is simply keeping as reasonably yielded as we can to God and as accepting and inclusive as we can toward all creation..." This fits in so well with my present thinking about accepting where each of us is at the present moment. And when we are not trying to be perfect, this naturally helps to free us from competing and comparing with others.

How wonderful, as we begin 2003, to be free to be, each of us, our own unique, God-created Self! So, let's relax and BE!

Don
