In the monologue/dialogue of
my dream I suddenly saw Everyman
standing at his present location
on his life's journey, and the
message was,
Regardless of the
past, Right Action is always
available and Right
Action Will
produce Right Results!
Preceding the dream for the
last week I had been reading and
re-reading Wayne Muller's
article "Effortlessness"
in Unity Magazine for May/June
2003. He speaks of The Buddha's
teaching of Right Action as part
of the Eightfold Path. And he
writes that The Buddha says
nothing about Right Results.
So once again one of the
golden truths is being enunciated
- a truth that we learn from
every realm of human experience:
we cannot be focused on Right
Action and Right Results (or the
results we are hoping for!) at
the same time, once again the
proverbial lesson from golf:
"don't look up, keep your eye on
the ball, that is, hitting
it!"
Wayne Muller is making the
point that Right Action is an end
unto itself: the satisfaction of
any unselfish act, the feeling
that comes from doing any task
well. But though outer results,
such as success or a specific
healing, may not come, I believe
that you and I intuit that
Right Action does produce
Right Results - the results
that are Right, not necessarily
the ones we're looking for.
What I am saying is that being
true to Right Action will
ultimately produce an inner (and
perhaps also an outer) result
that will register as peace of
mind and happiness!
And I firmly believe that
wherever you and I may be
standing on our path, to start
NOW to express Right Action
consistently will accomplish for
us what I have said in the
paragraph above. It is never too
late to turn a life around. It is
always the appointed time to
stride forth on the next step on
our path relying on Right
Action.
