These two men are telling us
the same thing: the Jesus Christ
consciousness (or the Truth of
God-consciousness) is making
headway in our civilization!
Rupert Sheldrake, a British
biologist, has come up with the
scientific observation that all
members of a species gain from a
breakthrough made by even just
one member. Why this can be so is
because what life is all about is
the development of consciousness
in all the species of life God
has created and thereby in each
member of the species. In my
essay on our website for April,
2004, I reported on collaborative
evidence provided by Dr. Andrew
Roger, a biochemist at Dalhousie
University: he says that
evolution does not proceed only
in distinct organisms and
species, but that genes are
swapped, borrowed and stolen by
unrelated organisms.
A Unity or Truth-Movement
interpretation of these ideas
would be that it seems that life
as a whole (and the One God
created them all!) is progressing
into harmony, health and
well-being, satisfaction of all
needs - spiritual, mental,
physical, material -,love,
goodness, and peace, the
realization of oneness - no
competition, conflict,
separation.
Think about the scriptures
selected by Daily Word for
January 23, 24, 25, and 26,
2006:
"So if anyone is in
Christ, there is a new
creation: everything old has
passed away; see, everything
has become new!" - 2 Cor. 3:17
"It shall be said, 'Build
up, build up, prepare the
way.' '' - Isaiah 57:14.
"I am about to do a new
thing; now it springs forth,
do you not perceive it?" -
Isaiah 43:19
"And the peace of God,
which surpasses all
understanding, will guard your
hearts and minds in Christ
Jesus." - Philippians 4:7
The first one speaks of
creating new species through the
evolution from old to new
consciousness.
The second one also speaks of
building new consciousness as
preparing the way for the good
results cryptically noted
above.
The third one makes the point
again. This one relates to the
idea I have been writing about,
that we must open ourselves to
the perception of (Charles
Fillmore calls it the organic
realization of) the breakthroughs
if we are to be benefited by
them.
The fourth one establishes the
peace (all the goodness) of God
produced by Christ Jesus. I speak
of it as the Jesus Christ
consciousness.
It is vitally important - if
we are to interpret Jesus Christ
correctly - that we unite the
Jesus Christ consciousness with
all Truth wherever taught and
expressed by all people and all
faiths. One of my very favorite
images of Jesus is when He stood
before Pilate and said: "Thou
sayest that I am a king. To this
end was I born, and for this
cause came I into the world, that
I should bear witness unto the
truth. Everyone that is of the
truth heareth my voice." - John
18:37
John 14:6 quotes /Jesus in
this way: "I am the way, the
truth, and the life; no man
cometh unto the Father, but by
me."
We become one with the Father
by identifying with the Christ,
which is the true Self of each
one of us. When we think of this
in terms of the Jesus Christ
consciousness, we remember that
Jesus taught us not to identify
with "the world" or the visible,
material world as if it were our
Source,not to judge by
appearances, not be doubtful
and,negative but always faithful,
believing that "with God all
things are possible", Matthew
19:26.
Unity makes the point that, in
all such statements, Jesus is not
talking about Himself as one
human being, but as representing,
and indeed expressing, the
universal Christ !
Now we add the exciting
teachings of a modern-day master,
Deepak Chopra: His book Peace
is the Way is excerpted in
Unity Magazine. January/February
2006 . His opening sentence
reads: "Mahatma Gandhi expressed
a profound truth when he said,
'There is no way to peace. Peace
is the way.'"
The Jesus Christ consciousness
is the way, the truth, and the
life!
This is what the Mahatma was
getting at and it is what Deepak
is getting at when he goes on to
analyze the effect of
consciousness in the human
story.
Just as I have been writing
excitedly in my monthly essays as
I have come into a deeper
realization of the impact Jesus
Christ has made and continues to
make in humankind's development
of God-consciousness, Deepak
speaks about tremendous
breakthroughs of what I am
calling Truth in so many places
and activities of our
civilization.
From his background in India,
Deepak speaks of three aspects of
the life of Truth (we always
capitalize it in Unity) from the
ancient Vedic texts:
- Seva: Your actions harm no
one and benefit everyone.
- Simran: You remember your
true nature and your purpose
for being here.
- Satsang: You belong in the
community of peace and
wisdom.
Now here is exactly the point
Deepak is making: YOU AND I AND
MILLIONS OF OTHERS IN VARIOUS
PLACES IN THE WORLD ARE ALREADY
LIVING (to some degree) IN THE
CONSCIOUSNESS OF SEVA, SIMRAN,
AND SATSANG. And, just as I keep
saying, Deepak is
saying:consciousness is the
power! I love it that neither of
us is claiming that we all have
become on a par with Jesus (or
with the Buddha or Confucius, or
others, for that matter.) We are
both saying that there is
evidence that the Truth
consciousness is daily making
changes in the attitudes and
lifestyles of some people
everywhere.
He says, ". . . the trend of
time must obey consciousness when
it decides to change. Your
suppressed will, I believe, is
already shaping the future."
Victor Hugo said the same: "The
most powerful thing in the world
is an idea whose time has
come."
Deepak says, "By some
estimates between a third and a
half of Americans accept some
form of New Age values, a broad
enough spectrum so that it's no
longer useful to even use that
label. What is useful is to see
that you matter and are not
alone. In 1987 a housewife
walking in the rain to get bread
in the shadow of the Berlin Wall
might have had no idea tha her
suppressed will to be free was
more potent than the wall."
So since this is true,- let us
affirm it and claim it and
rejoice in it every day all
through the day and always:
THE TRUTH LIVES IN ME
AND I LIVE IN THE TRUTH.
AND NOT ONLY I, BUT THIS IS
TRUE
FOR ALL PERSONS EVERYWHERE.
WE ARE ALL ONE AND ALL ONE
WITH THE ONE GOD
WHO HAS MANY NAMES
ALL MEANING THE SAME:
THERE IS ONLY LOVE!
